Caroline Smith is a Medill senior majoring in print journalism and political science. She has had multiple internships ranging from the satirical newspaper The Onion to National Geographic Kids South Africa to The Cape Times newspaper in Cape Town, South Africa. In addition, Smith received The Freeman-ASIA Award in 2007 to study Chinese indie rock in Beijing, China and the Eric Lund Global Reporting Journalism Grant in 2008 to study graffiti in South Africa. Smith has a particular interest in human rights and the environment. Her long-term career goal is to become a foreign correspondent.
