So, I'm the guy on the left!
I’m Ben Bowman, reporter for the Medill News Service in Chicago, Ill.
I joined the Medill network in January, 2012 for the opportunity to
report and learn in a city with a thriving political and cultural
atmosphere.
Chicago offers that and so much more with tons of untold stories!
But, it took me several career changes and more than 26 years to discover my passion for reporting.
Two years ago the idea to pursue journalism landed on me like a ton of bricks.
In 2010, my grandmother sat me down and told me two things: (1) find
out what you’re passionate about and (2) figure out how to earn a living
doing what you love.
I’m passionate about making a
difference, talking with people and keeping up with current events.
Journalism was the perfect fit.
So, when people welcome me into their lives to share compelling stories I feel incredibly grateful.
Before coming to Medill, I taught elementary school on Chicago’s West
Side. While I loved motivating students toward higher achievement, I
think journalism allows me to contribute to children and society more
holistically.
When reporting I think that my experiences,
both personal and professional, allow me to report with a perspective
that’s empathetic toward just about everyone.
I have truly benefited from wells I haven’t dug. My goal is to give a
voice to the voiceless. If you have a story you think deserves media
attention, please feel free to contact me.
