With no Republican foothold in Chicago, local Green Party officials predict that their party will swiftly gain momentum and take a place as the city's second party. There were 56 Green Party candidates on the ballot this year and the party garnered thousands of votes -- in the city, in the county and in the state.
With the hope of becoming an alternative to the Democratic Party, the Green Party thinks years of slow progress will see Greens in public office sooner rather than later.
