You don't have to join the circus to become a trapeze artist anymore. The guys and gals on the flying trapeze in Chicago are often looking for a workout rather than an audience.
Aloft Loft in West Town offers a variety of circus-themed classes, including trapeze exercise. Besides being a great way to build upper body strength, trapeze boosts confidence and is also a lot of fun, said Shayna Swanson, Aloft's owner. Plus, anyone can do it. Swanson has taught people of all ages and fitness abilities.
A long-time gymnast and dancer, Swanson has received formal circus training and opened up Aloft Loft in 2005. It's also home to a professional company of aerialists and acrobats, who serve as instructors for Aloft's classes.
