Chicago's young fashion designers show their stuff
Top students from Chicago's five design schools showcased their fashion collections this past weekend during Dress Code, a featured event of the city's annual Fashion Focus, which draws attention to home-grown talent.
In this video, designer Olivia Kim, who is from South Korea, talks about her struggles as a foreigner and as a student in the competitive industry.
“We [students] work very hard on our collections. We hope people can see our heart and soul in these garments,” Kim said.
Mayor Richard M. Daley came to Friday’s event to show his support for the students.
“In Chicago, our vibrant fashion industry is growing each year by concentrating on local artists and building a support structure that allows them to flourish and compete in an aggressive market,” Daley said.
