The long anticipated Metra fare increases took effect Wednesday to the dismay of many Chicago commuters. Depending on the commute, riders can expect to pay as much as a 30 percent fare increase. But will the added cost cause commuters to stop riding Metra and start taking the CTA? At the Davis Street Metra stop in Evanston, a Purple Line El stop sits across the street, forcing commuters to ask the question: Is the comfort of Metra worth the added cost if the  El goes the same direction for close to half the price?
