Around Chicago it can be a challenge for families dining out to find nutritious options for young kids. Initiatives like the local Healthy Fare for Kids to the national program Kids Live Well, aim to get healthier options on menus.

In the past four years, there has been a substantial increase in grilled and steamed options on kids menus, according to Chicago-based research firm Technomic.
