Chicago Police dial back on 911 responses
The Chicago Police Department’s new 911 response format goes into effect this week. Officers will not physically respond to any 911 calls where the victim is not in imminent danger or where an immediate arrest cannot be made. The police department says this will allow 44 more police officers a day to respond to violent crimes, and hopefully combat the high murder rate. While the intent is well-placed, some believe there are collateral costs.
