February is Black History Month, and Navy Pier hosted its own
celebratory event this past weekend, also commemorating the upcoming
50th anniversary of the March on Washington, where Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. The event
featured drum and dance ensembles, as well as a re-enactment of King’s speech. In a separate interview, Chicago historian and
civil rights figure Timuel Black, who worked with King and helped
organize Chicagoans to participate in the march, reflects on the event.
