Parents of students enrolled in the UNO charter network marched outside CPS headquarters before the Board of Education's meeting on Wednesday. CPS introduced stricter accountability measures for charter schools on both academic and financial matters. UNO's contract with the district has been approved for the next five years.
Chicago charter schools will be held to a tougher standard if the Chicago Board of Education approves the district's recommendation to place charters that do not outperform neighborhood schools on a warning list. Six charters have been placed on a warning list and two have been recommended to close.
