WASHINGTON- Prom season is just around the corner, leaving parents with a major concern.

Teen driving.

More than 80,000 deaths involving teen drivers occurred over the past decade, making it the leading cause of death for teens. Congressmen, families, and even teens are saying enough is enough.

They gathered on Capitol Hill Thursday to push for new national legislation for teen drivers.

The Safe Teen and Novice Driver Uniform Protection Act called STANDUP sets standards for states to reduce deaths and injuries among young drivers through a Graduated Driver Licensing program.

The goal is to phase in full driving privileges over time, lowering risk.
