Airport noise pollution on the rise

WASHINGTON--It's 6 a.m. and you're asleep. The rumbling of a jet engine propels you out of bed. If you're one of the many Americans living near a busy airport, you're familiar with this morning routine.

A recent Government Accountability Office report analyzed the effects of aviation noise on communities in light of increased air traffic and the aviaton industry's future plans to relieve delays and congestion. Beyond the annoyance, noise pollution can be hazardous to your health.
