WASHINGTON -- With nursing shortages all across the country, universities and hospitals are teaming up to find a solution. Georgetown University and Washington Hospital Center are leading a nationwide trend to provide scholarships and jobs for incoming nursing students. Georgetown's accelerated program lasts 16 months. It is open to college graduates with a bachelor's degree or higher in another field.
The partnership will invest an initial $2 million, aimed at providing Washington Hospital Center with more than 200 nurses within the next several years. The first class of students starts this fall. The next class begins in the spring of next year.
