NU men’s basketball freshmen add depth, talent … hope (Video)

Northwestern’s three freshmen are expected to have an immediate impact on the men’s basketball team.

Chris Collins plans to include Aaron Falzon, Jordan Nash and Derek Pardon as part of a 10-man rotation that can give the third-year coach the depth he lacked in his first two seasons.

Coming off back-to-back 6-12 finishes in the Big Ten, tied for 10th both times, Collins sees three players with different strengths. Together, he said, Tuesday at the team’s Media Day, the three comprise the most talented freshmen class he’s had in Evanston.

#RiseUpOctober rallies downtown Chicago (VIDEO)

“Black lives matter, Black lives matter, Black lives matter!”

That was the chant protestors cried on Thursday in the Thomson Center Plaza in an effort to bring attention to police brutality.

The “No More Stolen Lives: Say Their Names” protest brought together more than 70 people to remember innocent victims who lost their lives and to hold police accountable.

In a press release handed out at the event, Stop Mass Incarceration Network – Chicago, said a disproportionate number of the people being killed by police have been Black or Brown, and this was the community’s call to action. Faith leaders read out people’s names victimized by police as “a public reading and remembrance: a demand for justice.” Continue reading

Video: Northwestern men’s basketball Big Ten media day

The Northwestern men’s basketball team is entering its third season under coach Chris Collins. Seniors Tre Demps and Alex Olah said this is the most talented they have been a part of at Northwestern. The Wildcats finished 6-12 and tied for 10th in the Big Ten Conference in each of Collins’ first two seasons. The coach and the two seniors talked about their expectations for this season recently at Big Ten Media Day.

VIDEO: Fan flock to Ernie Banks statue

Prior to Game 4 of the National League Division Series, Cubs fans flocked to the statue of Ernie Banks to pay homage to a man who many is one of the organization’s all-time greatest players. Fans also shared their reactions about Mr. Cubs’ statue and how he might feel about the young and talented 2015 Cubs and their playoff run.
