Though she feels accepted by her immediate family, Jennifer is anticipating conflict when she decides to come out to members of her extended family. “I kind of feel like at least one side of my family is going to be really, really hurt and I’ve sort of come to terms with that,” she said. “It’s almost like when you know someone who is dying and you kind of make peace with it before they actually die. It’s almost like I’ve made peace with that so when I do eventually tell them, if everything goes to s–t I’m kind of like at a point where I can back away from this very easily” (Katie Rice/MEDILL).
