Purple Line Express commuters will soon have a smoother, faster commute.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and CTA President Dorval Carter announced a $30 million Purple Line Express improvement project at the Howard “L” stop Thursday. The project includes replacing track ties and running rail between Lawrence and Jarvis. Construction will take place on weeknights and weekends to minimize delays. The work is not expected to impact Red Line service.

Nearly 13,000 people use the Purple Line Express every day, Carter said. This is the first major renewal project of the tracks in 40 years. The project is set to begin on July 20 and is expected to be completed by the end of November.
