{"id":10497,"date":"2015-03-12T14:08:13","date_gmt":"2015-03-12T19:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.medill.northwestern.edu\/chicago\/?p=10497"},"modified":"2015-03-12T14:09:45","modified_gmt":"2015-03-12T19:09:45","slug":"facebook-class-brings-older-adults-into-21st-century","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.medill.northwestern.edu\/chicago\/facebook-class-brings-older-adults-into-21st-century\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook class brings older adults into the 21st century"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Emily Hoerner<\/p>\n<p>Older adults in Chicago\u2019s Norwood Park neighborhood are jumping into the 21st century to learn a new skill: Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>With Facebook\u2019s popularity garnering <a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom.fb.com\/company-info\/\" target=\"_blank\">890 million daily active users<\/a> as of December 2014, according to the company\u2019s website, the social network is arousing the curiosity of older adults.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Facebook classes brings older adults into 21st century\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/122016873?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nAt <a href=\"http:\/\/matherlifewaysinyourneighborhood.com\/mathers-more-than-a-cafe\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mather\u2019s \u2013 More than a Cafe<\/a>, three women took the first leap in learning about the social network during a two-hour beginner session.
