A student-designed healthy lunch option\u00a0was on the menu at Chicago Public Schools on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The dishes were created\u00a0by four George Washington High School student chefs who won the “Cooking Up Change” competition in Chicago this year. The annual contest encourages\u00a0culinary students to develop tasty and healthy meals for their classmates.<\/p>\n

The winning meal was prepared in the\u00a0George Washington\u00a0High School cafeteria,\u00a0and\u00a0community members were invited to\u00a0attend and have lunch with the students.<\/p>\n

The contest promotes healthy options and has some strict rules: no sugar and no salt. The student chefs also had\u00a0to create a lunch menu that meets federal\u00a0nutrition standards and\u00a0can be made for a dollar or less per plate.<\/p>\n

The winning menu\u00a0option included cajun chicken lettuce wraps, roasted corn relish and a peach and yogurt dessert.<\/p>\n

The four chefs won out over\u00a015 other attendees and will head to Washington, D.C. in\u00a0June\u00a0to\u00a0compete for the national title.<\/p>\n
