Once in position, Waldo extends his hands to grope his target and is\u00a0 deterred by each startled actress who jumps away.<\/p>\n<p>This scene is part of a series of skits in the four-woman comedy \u201cI Think, Therefore I\u2019m Sorry\u201d at The Crowd Theater, 3955 N. Broadway. The show highlights the challenges that modern women still face, drawn from the experiences of the actresses. As well as simply just exploring their experiences in general.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI Think, Therefore I\u2019m Sorry\u201d propels the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Although women no longer face rules on how to be a \u201cgood girl\u201d versus a \u201cbad girl\u201d\u2014one who would have sex before marriage\u2014women are still subjected to \u201ctraditional male attitudes,&#8221; said historian and biographer Louise Knight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The man\u2019s] got the new social morays that sex is okay before marriage, everyone is agreeing with with that now. So he can put a lot more pressures on the girl who doesn\u2019t want to have sex because she can\u2019t say, \u2018No, no, no &#8211; good girls don\u2019t have sex before marriage.\u2019 So what does she say?\u201d said Knight, who is a visiting scholar at Northwestern University\u2019s Gender and Sexuality Studies Program.<\/p>\n<p>Cast member Katie Tyner noted that a modern woman is in a \u201close-lose\u201d position between delivering and receiving any kind of advancement. \u201cYou\u2019re either a bitch or a prude,\u201d Tyner said in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>But Alice Eagly, a psychology professor at Northwestern University who specializes in social psychology, believes that there isn\u2019t \u201cany lose-lose here.\u201d Instead, Eagly emphasized that \u201cwomen have to do their part,\u201d even if it\u2019s difficult to respond to these acts of sexism or sexual advancements.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32415\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32415\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32415\" src=\"http:\/\/news.medill.northwestern.edu\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/02\/Cast-together.jpg\" alt=\"Although the show does not have a specific message, Ben Palin said it works to, &quot;to get these ideas and experiences out there.&quot; (Courtesy of The Crowd Theater)\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.medill.northwestern.edu\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/02\/Cast-together.jpg 600w, https:\/\/news.medill.northwestern.edu\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/02\/Cast-together-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32415\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Although the show does not have a clear message, Ben Palin said it works to, &#8220;to get these ideas and experiences out there.&#8221; (Courtesy of The Crowd Theater)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For the women of \u201cI Think Therefore I\u2019m Sorry,\u201d their production functions as an opportunity for them to respond to gender-related experiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s therapeutic,\u201d said performer and writer Yasmine Baharloo. \u201cIt feels good to talk about \u2018pussies\u2019 all the time\u201d in the show, especially through a medium like comedy, one area of &#8220;rampant sexism,\u201d Baharloo said.<\/p>\n<p>The opening skit satirizes one-night stands and strictly sexual relationships, an age-old bind that the cast suggests hasn&#8217;t change much.<\/p>\n<p>The cast of \u201cI Think, Therefore I\u2019m Sorry\u201d hopes their show will get audience members to \u201cjust listen,\u201d Baharloo said.<\/p>\n<p>Knight suggested ways performers could add to their impact on stage and make a change to these gender-related issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy very first suggestion is that they have a discussion with the audience afterwards and they specifically say to the women in the audience, \u2018How do you feel about these experiences in the play and do you feel we capture that in the play?&#8217;\u201d Knight said. \u201cThe women in the audience should have a chance to say what they need to say.\u201d She added, &#8220;Men too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Eagly said \u201ccollective group efforts\u201d can be effective but that women have to be \u201cwilling to talk about it and come together\u201d for such sessions to be successful.<\/p>\n<p>The final production of \u201cI Think, Therefore I\u2019m Sorry\u201d will be Thursday night at 8 pm at The Crowd Theater.<\/p>\n<div class=\"featurecaption\">Photo at top: The cast of &#8220;I Think, Therefore I&#8217;m Sorry&#8221; (from left to right) Katie Tyner, Connie Oshana, Cat Ring, Yasmine Baharloo.
