Chicago Shakespeare Theatre is expanding its presence at Navy Pier with a new theater space, the company announced today at an unveiling of the architectural design.<\/p>\n

The year-round venue named The Yard will be the third theatrical stage for the Shakespeare troupe. The venue will fit inside the current Skyline Stage and will be able to be configured in a variety of different ways, depending on production needs and audience size.<\/p>\n

The space\u00a0will be able to hold audiences ranging from 150 to 850 people.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cWe\u2019ve long-needed a third theater, as our current productions, our educational programs and international series literally have us bursting at every seam,” said Barbara Gaines, Founder and Artistic Director of Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. “There is an enormous audience for Shakespeare and Shakespeare-inspired work.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Yard is is expected to be open for the 2017-2018 season.<\/p>\n
