Nielsen BookScan, a service that collects data on about 85 percent of the bookselling market, said in December that about 571 million print books had been sold in the U.S., up about 2 percent from 559 million sold in 2014, Quartz reported.

Print book sales, industry-wide

[field name=”chart”]

Nielsen BookScan data show print book sales have actually rebounded in the U.S. since 2013. Running a bookstore bears surprising similarity to managing a network of doctors’ offices, especially when you consider the fixed costs associated in each setting, Kirschbraun said.

“I can’t change the price of a book.
