When that failed, they diverted their attention to drink holders adorned with the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish mascot.<\/p>\n<p>The couple, in town from Fort Worth, Texas, for the NFL Draft, was surprised to see a Notre Dame Bookstore in Chicago. \u201cWe were walking past and couldn\u2019t believe it,\u201d said Jeremy. \u201cI think it speaks to Notre Dame\u2019s reach, though.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame is in South Bend, Indiana, but out-of-towners don\u2019t always realize Chicago is Notre Dame territory. The Notre Dame Bookstore sits on Michigan Avenue, in a building owned by the school. It has been a successful first two days for the football team, as well, with two Irish players going in the first round, four going in the top 50 and six in the top 90.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been busy nonstop since we opened,\u201d bookstore employee Arletha Smith said Friday, and customers continued to file in and out until the store closed at 6 p.m. \u201cMost of the people are out-of-town fans here for the draft. They\u2019re coming from all over the country, and they\u2019re usually surprised to see us here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said business doesn\u2019t quite match a college football Saturday, but it\u2019s certainly higher than normal.<\/p>\n<p>Kenny Hayes, another bookstore employee, said there haven\u2019t been any hecklers during the draft, but fans of other teams sometimes give employees grief about setting up shop in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMichigan and Michigan State fans especially will say some crazy stuff on Saturdays during the season,\u201d said Hayes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"featurecaption\">PHOTO AT TOP: Notre Dame had four players picked in the first 50 picks of the NFL draft.
