Ellis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>A <a href=\"http:\/\/news.medill.northwestern.edu\/chicago\/category\/medill-newsmakers\/\">Medill Newsmakers<\/a> Report<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"dropcap\">There are 106,000 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sentencingproject.org\/issues\/women\/\">women<\/a> in prison in the United States. But how does <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sentencingproject.org\/publications\/the-changing-racial-dynamics-of-womens-incarceration\/\">race<\/a> factor into this? According to The Sentencing Project, the number\u00a0of African-American women in prison was more than double that of\u00a0white women in 2014. \u00a0This edition of Medill Newsmakers will examine how black women are affected by incarceration. We will specifically address what the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesliesplace.org\/\">process<\/a> is like for some black women transitioning back into society.
