Continuing claims increased by 0.6 percent to 2.44 million.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Department of Labor said in <a href=\"http:\/\/news.medill.northwestern.edu\/justus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/01\/data.pdf\">Initial Jobless Claims<\/a> that there were no special factors impacting claims.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1aNCpP9nAI88qN0PCOgixSmS1ROeoagGqc6ZHtYCg7NM\/pubchart?oid=968927536&amp;format=interactive\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450px\"><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<div id=\"featurecaption\">Weekly initial jobless claims have vacillated, but gone down steadily over the last year. (U.S. Bureau of Labor, Lucy Ren\/Medill)<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe numbers are quite consistent with the recent increase in job openings, \u201csaid Mark Witte, associate professor of economics at Northwestern University. \u201cBut the initial claims number often gets revised,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The number of job openings has reached the highest level in nearly 14 years, according to the November job openings report. The professional and business services marked the fastest growth among all sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The largest increases in initial claims for the week ended Jan.10 were in California, Texas, Indianan, Missouri and Illinois, while the largest declines took place in New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, New Jersey and South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"500\" height=\"300\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/fusiontables\/embedviz?q=select+col4+from+14M1T3uranm_GnkhbDLx7q6n5QTbE9a_CR8C7AxK4&amp;viz=MAP&amp;h=false&amp;lat=39.580575859959815&amp;lng=-92.10635249999996&amp;t=1&amp;z=3&amp;l=col4&amp;y=2&amp;tmplt=2&amp;hml=KML\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div id=\"featurecaption\">Initial jobless claims are affected by various factors in different states.
