On Wednesday LA chef Mei Lin won the title honors for Season 12, but the show has already started its annual, nation-wide scouting trip to cast the \u00a0upcoming season. Chicago\u2019s live casting call was earlier this week, but even if you missed it, there\u2019s still time to apply.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"http:\/\/player.theplatform.com\/p\/PHSl-B\/yT7k3t_YLXoZ\/embed\/select\/ZsAaFW0qCbA7\" width=\"640\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div id=\"featurecaption\">The season finale of Top Chef Season 12 finished this week in Boston. (Bravo)<\/div>\n<p>Chicago hasn\u2019t hosted the show since 2008, but local restaurants have been well-represented over the years. Several chefs have made it to the final rounds, and in Season 4 Stephanie Izzard of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.girlandthegoat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Girl &amp; the Goat <\/a>became the first female winner of the show.<\/p>\n<div id=\"related\">\n<p><em>A number of Chicago restaurants have former Top Chef contenders behind the scenes in the kitchen. A few notable names include\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.girlandthegoat.com\/\">Girl &amp; the Goat<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Co-owner and Executive Chef Stephanie Izzard became the first woman to win Top Chef: Chicago in Season 4.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/motorestaurant.com\/\">Moto<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Executive Chef Richie Farina was one of a record 6 out of 16 chefs from Chicago restaurants in Top Chef: Texas in Season 9.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trenchermen.com\/\">Trencherman<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Executive sous chef Rebecca LaMalfa was a contestant in Season 12, Top Chef: Boston.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Top Chef Casting Producer Marjorie Lewis said that competing chefs have more than just culinary chops. \u201cWe look for good chefs with big personalities and strong competitive spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She has been looking forward to their Chicago stop. \u201cChicago has a wonderful food scene, with so much young, vibrant talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Producers find contenders in various ways, ranging from privately contacting chefs to open casting calls and mailed-in applications. \u201cWe do our research, but we don\u2019t always hear about everyone,\u201d she said, \u201cBut if you\u2019re a great chef and you have a great resume you will get the same consideration as someone I meet in person. Star quality is star quality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chicago\u2019s casting call was held at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trenchermen.com\/\">Trencherman<\/a>, 2039 W. North Ave. It\u2019s host was Executive Sous Chef Rebecca LaMalfa, the lone Chicago chef to appear in Season 12, which was filmed in Boston. (Huge Galdones)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;There are people out there who are terribly boring, and nobody really wants to see someone on television who doesn\u2019t talk,\u201d she said, \u201cWhen push comes to shove, it\u2019s still a reality television show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But a fierce competitive streak doesn\u2019t hurt. \u201cEverybody there is competitive as all get out,\u201d said LaMalfa. \u201cSome people can hide it pretty well, but you\u2019re not on that show if you\u2019re not competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s still time to throw your chef\u2019s hat in the ring. The deadline for sending completed application forms and videos to the show by mail is 11:50 p.m. EST Monday, Feb. 20.
