If anyone is capable of leading a groundbreaking discussion about the challenges of being a woman in sports media, it’s Christine Brennan. Medill and Northwestern University Athletics held the fifth installment of their Beyond the Box Score series this week, bringing USA Today<\/em> columnist Brennan (BSJ80, MSJ81), CNN\u2019s Rachel Nichols (BSJ95), Fox Sports\u2019 Pam Oliver and ESPN\u2019s Cassidy Hubbarth (BSJ07) to campus Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s been a tough week for women\u2019s journalism with the deaths of pioneers Rhonda Glenn – the first full-time female sportscaster for a national network – and Alison Gordon – who was the first female beat writer in Major League Baseball – the legacies live on. The accomplishments of these pioneers and the four leading journalists\u00a0who spoke in Evanston continue to pave the way for future generations of female sports reporters.<\/p>\n
