But in the city of Johannesburg, the LGBTQ+ community continues to struggle for acceptance.<\/p>\n<p>In South African society, stereotypes and expectations of masculinity are deeply ingrained, and identities that don&#8217;t exist on the binary\u2014or sexualities that are anything other than straight\u2014are not widely accepted. Although the South African constitution says \u201cthe state may not unfairly discriminate directly or indirectly against anyone on one or more grounds, including race, gender, sex, sexual orientation&#8230;&#8221; the LGBTQ+ community still faces prejudice.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"In South Africa, transgender woman wants to open a new conversation about her community\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/340451616?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Nicole Louw is a transgender female photographer, model and rugby player. She\u00a0 grew up as a heterosexual, masculine man. She says as a transgender woman, she still has had relationships with gay men, as well as gay women. Her passion for the art form stems from capturing the candid moments of life. She also has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCxDXoG7uQnh2IyKoCB1r4XA\/videos\">YouTube channel<\/a> where she talks about her experiences as a transgender woman, with the hopes that it will reach other people who may be struggling or looking for someone to turn to and connect with.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Louw posted a video telling her viewers that she and her girlfriend Katelyn are expecting a baby. In the video, Nicole explains that she stopped her hormone therapy (after being on it for six years) in order to pursue a natural pregnancy with Katelyn.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"WE ARE PREGNANT !!!!!\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OobhVB6oIV8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I suppose the doctor will say it&#8217;s a girl but obviously we&#8217;ll let her or they or them decide what they choose to express themselves as,&#8221; Nicole says. &#8220;We&#8217;re obviously keeping everything gender neutral, we&#8217;re keeping names gender neutral, we&#8217;re keeping clothes gender neutral; we don&#8217;t want to pressure the kid into feeling any sort of which way, especially if they&#8217;re not comfortable.
