The switch to the Invitational means that only 120 golfers with an exemption status can compete and that the winner will receive a three-year instead of two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think we all looked at it as an opportunity to liken Tiger Woods and his legacy to a couple of other players like Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer,\u201d PGA Tour director of communications Amanda Herrington said. \u201cWe have three events on the PGA Tour schedule which has 49 events total. There are three events: the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard in Orlando and then the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide and that\u2019s Jack Nicklaus\u2019 tournament.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While this is Woods\u2019 fourth year to host the tournament, the \u201cInvitational\u201d title adds clout. It\u2019s the first time in more than 10 years on the PGA Tour that a tournament which isn\u2019t considered a major, Players Championship or World Golf Championships has hosted nine of the World Golf Rankings\u2019 top 10 players.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s incredible for the event just to be alongside those two unbelievable heroes of mine and to have an event alongside theirs,\u201d Woods said. \u201cIt\u2019s incredible for me to have played in this event at 16 years old and now to have this event and have the status we have, it\u2019s so special.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Players who are fortunate to make the cut like to see an additional opportunity to up their game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt fits this course,\u201d Keegan Bradley said. \u201cThis is such a great course, but a smaller field and also better players. Smaller fields are always better because you don\u2019t have to beat as many people.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The winner receives 500 FedEx cup points, which contributes toward his chances of winning the PGA Tour Championship. The prize purse with winning the Genesis Invitational also increased from $2 million to $9.3 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think it just increases how much the player want to win this,\u201d Herrington said. \u201cWhat other event can you win and then get Tiger Woods to shake your hand at the end of it?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"featurecaption\">Photo at top: Tiger Woods speaks with the media on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Riviera Country Club.
