Walking the streets of the nation&#8217;s cosmopolitan capital, Buenos Aires, you&#8217;ll likely find European influenced food, style, and architecture, all of it among mostly white faces.\u00a0 Today, the city&#8217;s population is less than two percent black. But a once substantial community of African descendants has made an indelible imprint on even the most celebrated and exported aspects of Argentine culture.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"S&amp;iacute;, Yo Soy Afro: What it&#039;s like to be Black in Argentina\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/440056208?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A series of epidemics, wars, and racist policies either pushed Argentina&#8217;s Black population to flee the country or led to the unfortunate deaths of many.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This turbulent history isn\u2019t really common knowledge. Schools don\u2019t include it in curriculums, leaving Black Argentines to rely on passing down stories and traditions to keep their heritage alive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Afro-Argentine community faces a huge hurdle trying to carve out space in a culture that doesn\u2019t fully acknowledge its history.
