It was founded by Bill Moreau in 2019 and began as a passion project to give back to his community. It is a one-stop-shop to engage the citizens of Indiana in learning about candidates, with unbiased information from both sides of the aisle.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Nonprofit news site aims to promote civic health and voter engagement in Indiana\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/559992126?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>To expand its Statehouse coverage, the Indiana Citizen has partnered with Franklin College and its Journalism Department. Student reporters write articles about the Statehouse through their program with the school. The Indiana Citizen uses these stories on its website as well to continue to spread awareness of issues inside the Statehouse to a wider audience.<\/p>\n<p>Its goal is to give people the sense of power again and to participate in their local government. The Indiana Citizen is encouraging them to become involved in issues and decisions that directly affect them. It is the first of its kind to fill in the holes that many other outlets and organizations fail to cover. By connecting the people and the Statehouse again to bring attention back to democracy, the Indiana Citizen is trailblazing a new way for journalism.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alexandra Elena Todd is a graduate student at Medill focusing on video broadcast journalism.
