VIDEO: Illinois advisory board recommends expanding medical marijuana coverage

Cancer, HIV/AIDS and Alzheimer’s are a few of the diseases that qualify patients for medical marijuana usage in Illinois. The Illinois Medical Cannabis Advisory Board now recommends that those with 11 other conditions get the chance to benefit from marijuana prescriptions. The board, however, rejected other conditions commonly associated with medicinal marijuana in its vote May 4.

The Illinois Medical Cannabis Advisory Board’s recommendations now need the approval of the state’s public health department. Legislators could then write new regulations for Illinois’ marijuana law. It could take months before the conditions become part of the official list.

VIDEO: Bonkers for bacon at Baconfest Chicago

Salty, smokey and savory are just some of the flavors that brought thousands to the UIC Forum April 17 and 18.

Baconfest Chicago has paid homage to America’s favorite cured meat since its start in 2009, when ten chefs served 75 guests between lunch and dinner service at The Publican. Since then, the event has grown considerably. This year, Baconfest held three sessions over two days for 4,500 ticketed guests. Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats of Wisconsin provided 8,000 pounds of bacon to the 170 participating restaurants.

VIDEO: Dodgeball a win for LGBT community

The Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association forms an integral part of the LGBT community in the city. Founded as the Gay Athletic Association in 1978, it is the largest non-profit gay and lesbian sports organization in the Midwest. CMSA has experienced back-to-back growth for the first time in years. It’s membership increased by 4% in 2014. Teams of members compete against each other in sports such as dodgeball.
