Chicago mayoral candidate Jesus “Chuy” Garcia silenced the political doubters Tuesday night. At the end of an Election Day with lower than usual voter turnout, Mayor Emanuel failed to receive the majority needed to prevent an April 7 runoff. Garcia obtained 33.9 percent of the vote and will face off with the incumbent six weeks from now.
When news of the runoff reached the post-election party for Garcia, a raucous celebration began (see video below).
