This week’s “Backstage Chicago” is all about the city’s quirkiest summer traditions, with a whole lot of animal energy. We’re taking you to the Chicago River for the annual Duck Derby, where tens of thousands of rubber ducks race for a good cause, and then swapping feathers for fur at the high-energy Dachshund Derby, complete with stubby legs, wagging tails and more cuteness than the city can handle. Plus, we’ve got your Calendar Minute, packed with the best concerts, festivals and events happening this week so you can make the most of summer in Chicago.

“Backstage Chicago” is your all-access pass to the city’s hottest summer events. All reporting and producing is done by Medill video and broadcast graduate students Abby Feldman and Reilly Cook. “Backstage Chicago” is part of these students’ final master’s project.
