A first sign of spring: Morrie O’Malley’s Hot Dogs reopens for 28th season

On his lunch break yesterday, Chicago native Anthony James enjoyed a warm, sunny day, a hot dog and a hamburger for the first time this year on the patio of Morrie O’Malley’s.

The famous hot dog stand reopened for its 28th season on Monday to high temperatures and long lines, welcoming back anxious customers after being closed for their off season.

Each year, on the first Monday of March, O’Malley’s opens its doors and patio looking forward to serving the community for the about eight months out of the year. Down the block from U.S. Cellular Field, the stand began in a trailer for four years and has been serving out of the permanent building for the past 24 years.
