Lorena Iniguez started her artistic career in dance, carrying on her father’s love for Mexican folk dance.

Iniguez now plays more than ten instruments and performs with the Grammy-nominated Mexican folk group, Sones de Mexico Ensemble.

The ensemble recently performed at Navy Pier as part of the “Neighborhoods of the World” event series, which features and celebrates a new cultural group each Sunday.

Iniguez said it’s important for her to promote her Mexican culture through music and dance. She said she hopes her performances can help inspire other young Mexicans in Chicago to embrace their heritage in a place far from home.
